About Sun and Moon
Sun and Moon..(Tim Garnett), Out of this world music...Why? The Sun and Moon project started out with the idea to encompass multi-genre music, and what happened in it´s evolution, was a multi-genre fussion within each song. No song is alike and although some people may classify the genre, you can find different movements within the song itself. It has become known as Invitro-Rock. That´s what it´s being called here in Mexico. Why this name? From an attempt to promote a music festival at the pyramids of the Sun and the Moon in Teotihuacan, Mexico. Of course, the mexican government did not grant us the permit. We changed the band´s name to Sun and Moon, to symbolize that struggle and because I´m a Cancer (Moon) and my co-founding member, Jorge Medina is a Leo (Sun). We felt and still feel connected to this wonderful site our Aztec ancestors left for us. Band History: We started out as a 3 piece band. We never really liked playing covers but we had to eat. I found myself writing original music more and more until covers became a thing of the past. Back in those days we were super influenced by Carlos Santana and that great percussive sound. We started playing latin music but our rock roots started filtering in, and that´s where the fussions began. We went to California and played the circuit there, then ended up in Maui, Hawaii for a year, That was a great experience. The band broke up because we were all headed in different musical directions, so I moved back to my hometown, Cuernavaca, Mexico and started writing the new Sun and Moon project which has produced 21 albums with over 230 songs. Equipment used: That would be a long list. I´m basically a guitarist so I´ll start there. Fender 6 string acoustic electric, Ovation 12 string acoustic electric, Washburn acoustic electric, Ibanez electric, Gibson les Paul, all percussion instruments, Feurich Baby Grand piano, Korg synthezisers and pedals, and one of my favorites, the Boss DR5, which broadened my horizons with the ability to include intruments and orchestrations that I couldn´t play on my own, although I did learn to play it manually. Anything else...? I´m ambidextrous but I play the guitar lefthanded with a right handed stringed guitar (upside down) This technique got me expelled from music school, but it gave me a different sound and scratch technique. Sun and Moon guitars have a very different and distinct sound. My influences? All music and musicians are influential, from sounds of the age of music to the present. However, Sun and Moon has a very distinctive sound of it´s own. I have many influences, but the ones that made my head spin, started in 1969 with Beatles, Chicago Transit Authority, Santana, Pink Floyd, Yes, Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Rush, Supertramp, Electric Light Orchestra, John McLaughlin, Etc, Etc, but my favorite guitarist was Terry Kath.
