Rapper/Singer Swisha Steve, born Stephen D Cotten was born and raised in Paterson, New Jersey on December 30th 1988. Being a reserved child, there was only one thing that could always bring him joy. It was at the young age of three that he developed a interest for music. Having a family with a musical background (all singers) and his mother being a Reverend, Stephen grew up in the church singing as well as playing the drums.

As a young teenager Swisha Steve took an interest in basketball and had dreams of making it to the NBA. Those dreams would later be overshadowed by his undeniable love for music. Having lived on Park Avenue all of his life, it was only natural that his institution of learning be at the iconic Eastside High School. At age 16, being taken to the studio for the first time by a childhood friend was when he knew that music something he wanted to do for the rest of his life. Unfortunately at 17, falling into the pressures of society, he dropped out of high school and moved to the Bronx, NY where he still mildly pursued his music career. The following year he returned to his hometown to link with his childhood friend as they went on to create the duo "Pretty Money." Shortly after, the rapper/singer branched off and formed his own private label "Paper Chasers Inc"

Since then, the artist has been perfecting his craft with countless hours in the studio, Assembling original music like his latest song, "Play time." As well as releasing a body of work entitled "This Is Not A Mixtape" and has collaborated and featured on original songs such as "Get Low," & Bankroll's "Paterson 973." It is with every studio session that he is learning, growing and developing his musical abilities and he is definitely one of his city's most underrated artists. With wit and charm both in and out of the booth, along with his "Back to Rap" mentality, he is sure to capture the ears of any audience. Swisha Steve is determined to bring real rap back to the hip hop industry and believes you can do so without sacrificing the creativity and differentiation of today's music.
