About Tabitha Elkins
Pianist/Vocalist/Composer Tabitha Elkins was born in Camden, New Jersey and grew up in Trenton, New Jersey. Raised by music-loving parents, Tabitha started out playing the violin in her school orchestra, but as a teen she gravitated towards Rock and Blues, teaching herself drums, guitar and keyboards. After moving to New York City, she was involved in New York's indie rock scene, writing and performing her own music.
After moving to Germany in the Summer of 2003, Tabitha started singing with the Heddesheimer Jazz Projekt, and singing with Rev. Lee Brown and the Freedom Family Choir, as well as doing various solo projects. Tabitha performed as a soloist at Cantus Novus' "Jazz Gottesdienst" during the Worms "Jazz and Joy" Jazz Festival, hosted "Tolkien Weekend Worms" at the Lincoln Theater, and has recorded with Jazzapo and Blue Delicious.
Her CD, "Upside Down World" features varied influences and insturments, including ukelele, classical guitar and mandolin . All of the original songs were written and arranged by Tabitha in her home studio in the rolling hills of Germany's wine country, Rheinhessen, and were then recorded in Worms with hip hop producer, Steffen Jurkat AKA Qing Picasso. From trippy psychedelia to gospel and motown, this CD showcases Tabitha's unique point of view, whether dreamy and introspective (like in Daisy Chain), strident and impassioned (Candyland), ironic and lighthearted (Upside Down World) or ironic (Captain Kirk).
Her CD "Love+Death" was entirely self-produced and delves into love, heartbreak, death and hope, and includes songs such as "Only Your Love Will Do", "Over You" and the indie post-punk "Chessmen". Songs such as "Walls in our Hearts" and "Prayer for our Planet" take on social and political topics.
