The Nerves' hit song Hanging On The Telephone has been covered by Cat Power, Blondie and Def Leppard. The Nerves toured with The Ramones and funded their own recordings without a record deal.

The Beat was formed by Paul Collins after The Nerves disbanded in 1977. Collins' friend Dee Dee Ramone of The Ramones encouraged him to form a heavier and harder-rocking band similar to The Nerves. The Beat were early MTV music video pioneers with 2 videos still shown on MTV. The Beat were featured on the Caddyshack motion picture soundtrack and can be seen in the ending credits.

The Breakaways was Collins' short-lived project with Grammy-Award winner Peter Case, a respected songwriter and garage rocker in The Plimsouls.

Paul Collins continues to pursue a solo career, with several projects focusing on alt-country, folk, country and Americana music. Collins has toured and recorded with Chuck Prophet, Sheryl Crow guitarist Jeff Trott and Chris Isaak's band Silvertone.
