About The Rarely Seen
THE RARELY SEEN
Four songwriters lock themselves in a room with acoustic guitars. A bottle of honey bourbon, a case of beer, a few packs of smokes (for the smokers), and decide to collaborate and write an album of songs. Imagine Mersey beat meets the Replacements with vocals that are often reminiscent of the Jayhawks.
That’s how the concept began. Dean Ulmer, Greg Renzenbrink, and Greg Schramm, all formerly of Tex Schramm and the Radio King Cowboys teamed up one of Cincinnati’s most elite guitarist, Ted Forbes, (Lori’s Secret, and former guitarist for Elaine and the Biscaynes). A few rehearsals later they had 18 new songs. They streamlined the number of tunes down to twelve and recorded the “After Dark” sessions at Leaping Lizards Project Recording Studio for Half-Baked Records.
Since the band is split between 3 guys with tons of gigging experience and one guy who is a self admitted guitar tone freak / studio producer so the name The Rarely Seen seemed a natural split play on words.
The band…
Greg Renzenbrink on Lead and Backing Vocals, Bass, & Acoustic Guitar.
Greg Schramm on Lead and Backing Vocals, Drums, Shakers, Beat Box & Tambourines. Additionally: Synth Piano, Percussion & Calliope.
Ted Forbes on Lead and Rhythm Guitar, Acoustic Guitar & Backing Vocals
Dean Ulmer on Lead and Rhythm Guitar, Acoustic & Dobro Guitar. As well as Synth Piano, All Strings & Brass Sections. Studio Engineering and Producer.
A Rarely Seen Guest: Brian Hogg on Sax (Wild One)
All Songs Written by: The Rarely Seen
The album kicks off with both Greg's doing a call- back-and-answer vocal on “Give Me Just a Minute.”
“ Wild One” Features Greg S. on vocals and special guest, Brian Hogg on sax.
“ In the Sunshine Again” Features Greg R. on lead vocal and features Ted and Dean's lush, James Honeyman-Scottesque guitar work.
“Forgot My Phone” Ted’s immense lead guitar work shines on this tune w/ Greg R. on lead vocal, the outro is epic in scale and gets a blistering guitar solo outro.
“Heaven on Earth” Features Dean on a dobro guitar solo w/Greg R. on vocals.
“Sea of Misery”, A rollicking, rocker, that features Greg S. on some nicely layered vocals for a big sound.
“No Reason” Has that sweet Mersey beat meets Weezer type of feel. Greg R. on vocals and Greg S. on keys.
“ Fallen Leaves” Features Greg S. on vocals on a song about lost friends.
“Trigger Finger”, Another Dean feature, the tune is about weapons when in they are in the wrong hands and highlights Greg R. on vocals for possibly the grittiest number on the CD.
“ Easy to See” Again features the two Greg's going back and forth on vocals in a complex arrangement by Dean.
“A Lover Like You” Features Greg R. on vocals and Ted on a ripping, Glenn Tilbrook-like guitar solo.
Lastly “Told You So”, is a Ted song w/Greg S. on vocals, some very big drums and a Greg R bass solo to close the CD out.
