About The Shots

The Shots are an American Hardcore Punk Rock band formed February 2011 in Sumter, South Carolina. The group was founded by the original line-up , founding and former member Grady Holland(Lead Guitarist), current and founding members Brad(Bass Guitarist) and Chad Barwick(Drummer). The band is recognized for having random song titles very seldom making any sense. Critics have said the lyrics are barely understandable due to the band's tremendous instrumental volume.

(2011-2012 Era)

The Shots performed in front of live audiences from Myrtle Beach South Carolina to the New Brookland Tavern in Columbia , South Carolina to Tremont Music Hall in Charlotte North Carolina, over 800 shows have been played to this day with the 2011 Wings & Strings Pizza Lane streak as a contributing factor (where The Shots started performing)

The majority of the song progression, melodies, and titles were composed by Brad and Chad Barwick, except for the majority of the 2011 originals which were heavily driven by Grady Holland's direction and interpretation. Holland is responsible for the chorus harmony and main guitar rift used in "Alone" (The band's first song ever created)

(2013-2014 Era)

January 2014 saw the band deciding on a brief 'hiatus' making Tremont Music Hall the group's last show for 2013-2014 . A few months later the band reunited in June exclusively although briefly performing multiple singles from their first recordings and adding newer songs to their set-lists , giving the group a more solid, powerful, voluminous "out there" un-earthy atmosphere within the music.

(2015-2017 Hiatus)

2015-2017 saw The Shots once again take another hiatus after Holland left the band in October 2015 , resulting in only advertisement and marketing promoting the group's dated recorded material for the next couple of years.

(2018-2019 Hardcore Punk)

In May 2018 , The Shots re-branded as Hardcore Punk. Composing Heavier , Faster, Angrier, and provoked themes along with explicit less "family friendly" lyrics. This raw incarnation saw Lead Guitarist Charles Hale joining the band in February 2019 , the same line-up from Brad and Chad's first band Swivel Farie

"Swivel Farie was where it all started. It was our first band, Charles, Brad, and Myself you know? 3 kids, having fun, creating fun music, living free, enjoying our youth. Some of our Shots' songs were actually Swivel Farie songs so it only made sense. Charles was the missing element to the original formula- Why not bring it back for good? So that is exactly what we did." - Chad Barwick

Like many of their influences, The Shots are also recognized for their unkempt appearances and rejection of theatrics.
While the music is characterized by a sludgy guitar sound accompanied by high levels of distortion, fuzz and feedback effects. The Shots fuse elements of hardcore punk ,thrash and heavy metal, although some groups under the Hardcore Punk genre emphasize heavily on one characteristic or the other. Lyrics are typically angst-filled, often addressing themes such as social alienation, politics, apathy, war, confinement, and a desire for freedom.

"We all stand for something, We always have. Its our time to cement that. What does your life mean to you if you only stand for nothing? We are all about the happening, you'll see that. We aren't here to sit back and lounge anymore. This isn't only a band, this is a protest. What do you protest?"- Brad Barwick
