"Coffeehouse concerts can give off an “open mic night” vibe–(expired link)., informal and amateurish, the sort of thing musicians and listeners try to avoid. Musicians have to battle with screaming espresso machines for the audience’s attention. Sometimes nobody shows up but the musicians. Occasionally there’s awful poetry. In short, they can be a sad ordeal. - None of this was present at Root Coffeehouse on Friday night when the Vogts Sisters (pronounced “votes”) took the stage.

THINGS TO LOOK FORWARD TO:

This month we'll be working to record our third album. We're thrilled to be able to share our new songs with you in this way and hope to release the album in early June. Stay tuned for more information in the weeks ahead.

Also on our summer calendar are two out-of-state tours, when we'll take our music to Colorado and Arkansas. As a family, we've enjoyed many camping trips to Colorado and are super excited to be able to return to the Rocky Mountains in June with our truck loaded to full-capacity and our instruments in tow. In August, we'll travel deep into the Ozark mountains to perform at the Ozark Folk Center in Mountainview, Arkansas. Watch for more information about these tours in the months ahead.

Purchase My Own Dixie online at CD Baby, Amazon, or Itunes. "Guitar Man" made it as a Finalist in the Folk Category - 16th Annual Great American Song Contest. GASC Judges reviewed songs by nearly 1700 songwriters around the world. The high quality of songwriting made the task of choosing winners enjoyable, but also challenging. Summer is nearing an end, and we are looking forward to some cooler days for our fall performances. Last weekend, we performed at the Kansas State Fair, and next week we'll head for Winfield for the Walnut Valley Festival!

We recently learned that two of Maggie's songs were selected for the NewSong Showcase at the WVF. This is quite an honor, and we are delighted to return to Stage II to sing at least one of her winning songs. Performance on Thursday, September 18, at 11:45 AM.

So if you're planning to attend the festival, be sure to stop by to hear the winning songs.
