About Thierry J
A story written with words goes through mystery, psychology, romance, action. We read the story, perhaps read it again, watch the movie, and perhaps watch it again.
Music in songs that we listen to over time, switching from songs to songs, the ones we love, in many styles of classical, rock, jazz, rap. We associate with the melodies, the harmonies, the words, the stories.
Creativity in paintings that we like, each stroke done towards a final visual perception of feelings, stretching a story whose background we appraise.
When listening to music, we hear the melody, we feel the harmony. A story in melody is felt tightly with the harmonies
The propositions of stories in harmony is my premise, bringing the world to what is possible, choices that work because they can be felt and renewed without weariness.
I am from Paris, now living in Salt Lake City. Have a PhD in machine learning from the electrical engineering department of the University of Utah.
My background in music is formal, although I pursued a vocation in science. I started at age 6, and several times a week during my teens took classes at a conservatory near Paris, learning solfeggio and accordion. The accordion is an instrument with which to play melody and harmony, and my particular training was with the French-Italian button accordeon.
To play in my cousin's band, I applied this training to the electric guitar. I formed Apocalypse with high school friends. We composed our own melodic and Hard-rock material. At the ESME Sudria we formed Dedicass with college buddies. We made a record and performed at several end-of-the-year galas.
I moved to Utah and took Jazz classes. My previous composition skills had mostly been directed towards rock bands in France. I started composing more advanced material, borrowing ideas from styles including Jazz, Melodic Rock, Latin, Classical. We formed an international Jazz band called the Sarcome Brothers with other Grad students of the engineering building. Along classic Jazz, we played our own material and produced ourselves in Salt Lake.
Eventually, the orchestration became as important as melodies and harmonies. The result means to include diverse melodies, good orchestration, mixed styles, and a high professional broadcast quality.
I have composed parts for the French musical called Hainiste, written and directed by Artistes a Vue.
The material in EarthTones falls in categories of instrumental music and orchestral classical. Melodies and harmonies are written on staff paper using a pencil. The full orchestration is scored in Cubase. The analog output is generated through sounds modules, Kontakt and others.
I am always learning and improving, currently composing new pieces and orchestrating older ones.
I look forward to contributing to good music in all future endeavors, and also hoping to find your gems of creativity.
