Tonahope Smythe Born in Hanover, Jamaica, and while enjoying a happy childhood the true roots of Rastafarianism and reggae music were instilled in him. Tonahope loves to sing and always wanted to be apart of a band, In 1996 he started a band "Sons Of Thunder" performing in Clubs and venues up and down the east coast, due to the overwhelming responses and constant request for CD's for purchase Tonahope took to the E2 studio in Brooklyn (expired link). where he recorded his first track "Jah never leave us" under the close supervision of Ansel "Meditations" Cridland. This track featured musicians like Ed Robinson on drums, Val Douglas on bass, Sydney Mills on keys and Edson Mitchell on guitars. this was a great start for a wonderful album.
Despite enduring life’s hardships, Ton-A-Hope through perseverance writes songs and melodies designed to uplift JAH people, he developed his own music and style, finally in 2012 he was able to release his first album titled 'Judge Not" with tracks like the aforementioned “JAH Never Leave Us”,"Going True" and "Where is the love" to name a few songs from the 10 track debut album,
Now based in Norfolk VA, Tonahope is an avid golfer who is known for singing in between shots, he enjoys vibing with people of all walks of life, and truly believes he is his brothers keeper as evident by his lyrical content. Check it out for yourself,
