About Tony Johns
Tony Johns, at the age of 21, began performing in Pubs and Clubs around the Hunter Valley in NSW Australia in the early 1980’s. He sang and played guitar and harmonica to popular covers as well as his own material. A highlight at that time was being support act to Roy Orbison . His career was given a boost when a song he’d penned about the evils of drunk driving called “PCA The Easy Way” reached the top 10 in the local Newcastle Music Charts. This encouraged him to concentrate more on his song writing and over the next 10 years he wrote and recorded 4 albums of his own songs including “The Way I Live” in 1988 and “The Valley” in 1994. Songs from “The Valley” album such as “Campin in the Barringtons” and “Fishin’with Jack” still receive occasional airplay ! He also travelled extensively in this period, performing and promoting his songs throughout Australia, Europe and the UK.
In the mid 1990’s while beginning to record another album he contracted a vocal disorder called Spasmodic Dysphonia which causes spasms in the muscles surrounding the vocal chords. This illness ended his singing career and put a halt to the albums’ recording. Almost 20 years later he resumed the recording process using other singers to complete the songs on this album. This album is called “Natural” and was released on 1st October 2016. It is available for digital download through most internet outlets such as Itunes and Amazon etc, as well as being available in hard copy CD at Tony’s Facebook Page…Tony Johns @tonyjohnsmusic.
Currently, Tony performs in various line-ups as an instrumentalist playing acoustic and electric guitar and harmonica.
