About velax
Born 23rd of November 1956.
Vegetarian since 1985.
I started playing the guitar around 7 years old. I used for some years my mother's acoustic guitar given to her as present for her confirmation, in 1944 I believe, by her father,- obviously being my grandfather.
The guitar was really hard on the frets, and I still have it.
I did teach myself to play, and I constructed chords without a clue about chords and stuff. I just put the fingers down and “created” nice harmonies. :)
After a while my father bought me a Guitar ABC so know I even learned the names of the chords, even those I partly invented myself. LOL
I bought my first guitar, a second hand red Kawai half acoustic / electric, must have been when I was 13 years old.
Later a second hand electric Höfner when I was 16, and finally the guitar I still have and still use; my highly beloved 1973 Fender Stratocaster. Also second hand, but used only three months and looked completely as new.
It does not look like new any more ! On the contrary it looks like it has been fighting in the front line during several wars, and somehow it has. Ha ha.
I also have an Ensoniq TS -10 synthesizer. I cannot play key boards, but no one has told me that, so I play happily anyway.
I bought a Tascam 4 track cassette recorder in 1989, and PC based Cubase 4 studio software in 2005. November last year my closest family joined and bought me the Tascam DP-32SD Digital Portastudio. I have not had any time for music the last years, but I really must do something about it now. As for the portastudio so far I have only switched it on to check that there are lights.
As for composed songs, I believe I have far more than 100 songs laying around on cassette tapes, on discs, in Cubase, on CDs and on laptops. Some more or less completed, others drafts.
I compose rock, ballads, pop and instrumentals. Even some hymns. I write the texts in Nynorsk, (the Norwegian language constructed and based on several dialects in south west and south middle Norway), Spanish and English.
As I was stupid enough to sell my Fender Quad Reverb guitar amplifier several years ago, I have not been able to record much guitar, and certainly not rock guitar. So this is the main reason for letting everything music rest for a while.
I need to take a grip here (too…).
As for the songs that I have uploaded, I did it mainly to test out how NumberOneMusic works. But it is nice that some of you out there actually play and download them. Thank you. I believe you deserve better quality recordings on most of them. Which will come.
I have three brothers, and two of them also participates on some of the uploaded songs with vocal and drums. The female vocals are done by friends or people I know or even hired in.
Hopefully there will be made a video to some of my songs coming later with my Spanish-Norwegian twin daughters dancing, as they are very talented dancers.
My three main interest are by far music, flying and astronomy. I am an amateur astronomer. Hence the name Vela-X.
VELA - X is actually the supernova remnant after a giant star which exploded around 11 000 years ago. It takes too long to explain here, but what is left of the giant star is now an extremely fast rotating object, ca 200 km in diameter,- which rotates 11 195 times pr second ! A so called pulsar, called so by the radio pulses they emit at regular intervals. The distance to this pulsar from Earth is around 1000 light years. To make it easier to understand it means that if you could travel over 7 times around the Earth in one second, you would still need 1000 years to reach Vela-X.
The remnant of the supernova explosion is estimated still to be travelling outwards with a speed of 1 200km/sec.
I also like that the word “vela” has different meanings in Spanish. Vela is the Spanish word for sail. And the astronomical name Vela-X, is based on the facts that it is star X in the constellation Vela (Vela = latin for Sail), which again is a part of the huge constellation Argo Navis (The Ship)
seen from Southern hemisphere.
So vela means sail in Spanish. But it can also mean candle light, and velar means to stay awake during night, and even to stay awake to guard someone who is ill or even dead.
The name and verb VELA is associated with several meanings, and mysterious issues around the astronomical object as well.
That’s all for now.
All the best
from Vela-X
