About Virginia Traut

Virginia, born Virginia (Traut) in March 1981, became a professional, well respected singer/songwriter and musician at the very young age of 14. She continued to write songs, regardless of their exposure or lack thereof. It wasn't until she signed with the Independent Label, Gig Records, run by Jose Antao out of Point Pleasant, NJ. She had several offers from highly reputable labels, including Virgin Records and Atlantic Records. However, maintaining her authenticity was more important than maintaining a "radio-friendly" reputation. As a result, Virginia signed with the small indie label, who promised to allow her complete, creative freedom and released 2 albums shortly after. She then contributed her version of the infamous ballad, Emotion in Motion by Ric Ocasek, for a various artist compilation, entitled Just What We Needed, Another Tribute to the Cars, on Main Man Records, then her 3rd and 4th album, a double album titled Hush Underground, her 5th album, Decoding Maize Minor and her 6th album, Upsound From the Underground, which was a compilation that showcased at least one song from each of her prior releases.

Virginia kicked off her career winning Top Female Vocalist and Best Female Solo Performer for three years in a row at the Asbury Music Awards, an annual award show, largely endorsed by popular artists including Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi. She also received various nominations for Best Song of the Year, Best New Album and Best New Band. She has since worked with top industry players such as Adolfo Doring, VMA winner for his Hootie & the Blowfish music video, "Let Her Cry". Just prior to Adolfo's unexpected death, Virginia was preparing the ultimate soundtrack for his "Got Stem Cells" documentary, co-produced with Michelle Cicalese and was accepted on as a featured HBO documentary exclusive. Virginia's live performances included some very impressive concerts, including her opening show for Tracy Chapman, at the Count Basie Theater, M. Doughty of Soul Coughing, sharing tours with Chris Connelly of Ministry, Miles Hunt of the Wonder Stuff and the Violent Femmes. She was both well known for her performances with a backing band and as a solo artist.

A large portion of her 1st and 2nd albums, originally released with Gig Records, were featured in the independent film, Never Among Friends, directed and produced by Jason Allentoff. Featured songs appeared on her debut album, Sweet Conscience and her follow up (expired link)., entitled Hush.
