About YoungWills

YoungWills, born Dwight Grimes, has been making music for the past three years, but he’s been rhyming for most of his life. Raised by his mother, YoungWills grew up in Tompkins Projects in Bedford-Stuyvesant (otherwise known as Bed-Stuy) with his sister and three brothers. Although he was raised in a single family household, he and his father were still very close and he visited him whenever possible to talk about what was going on his life.

Growing up in the projects, YoungWills was surrounded by hardship, but even as a kid he was able to spin the events he saw into music form with the help of his brother VE (verbal emperor). He would rap about what happened in the neighborhood and his experiences on the street, lending personal insight into his day-to-day activities. In fifth grade, YoungWills father died, and YoungWills states that “it was something that was hard for me to overcome but once I did it became one of the things that motivate me to reach my potential.”

And reach his potential he will. Even though things have been tough, YoungWills doesn’t just talk about the bad stuff, he talks about the good times as well because “that’s what I feel life is all about.
