About Zampognòrchestra
“Bag to the future" A new expression of zampogna
Forget for a while the stereotype of a bagpiper and try to think of four musicians armed with their “Zampogna” (Italian bagpipes), who, instead of performing traditional Christmas carols, start playing the opening riff from Satisfaction by the Rolling Stones; or the intro of With a Little Help From My Friends by the Beatles.
It is the eccentric and extraordinary experiment of Giuseppe “Spedino” Moffa, Aldo Iezza, Christian Di Fiore and Pasquale Franciosa, who together have turned one of the typical instruments of mid South Italy into a real “orchestra”: a sound that can only be described as unique, irresistible, and exhilarating.
The project “BAG” TO THE FUTURE – The new expression of “zampogna” is a musical trip where rhythms and traditional melodies veer towards rock, jazz, funk and classical music, giving life to a meeting of genres and heterogeneous inspirations, linked together by tons of groove. The result yields an overwhelming impact.
From the classical symphonies of Beethoven and Dvorak, to scratchy funk-rock; from the rousing rhythms of South-America, to Edith Piaf’s romantic chanson française; from the traditional tarantella of southern Italy, to the fascinating polyphony of Corsica. It's a true 360° musical trip between original songs of the quartet and famous melodies that have marked the history of music of the last century.
Zampognorchestra has participated in numerous international music festivals and concert series such as: The Grey Cat Jazz Festival, Lunatica Festival, Night of the Taranta, Carpino Folk Festival, ArgoJazz, Spello Splendens Festivoce, and the International Festival of Bagpipes. They also have collaborated with internationally famous artists, like: Javier Girotto, Stefano "Cocco" Cantini, Antonello Salis, Daniele Sepe, Massimo Giuntini.
Recently, Zampognorchestra has engaged in several exciting projects. Particular success was achieved by the project "Hevia & Zampognorchestra" which toured Puglia with Hevia, a world famousoAsturianobagpiper. A remarkable and surprising experience was also had in Corsica, which saw the quartet perform with the vocal ensemble "A Cumpagnia Course", in a marriage of bagpipes, vocal experimentation and traditional music.
